Boaz and Ruth

Hello, God has given me something in Judges 3:9 which says, “Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer.”

So, what God has given me is, that Boaz (the one who asked, “Who are you?”) is a kinsman-redeemer, just like Jesus is our kinsman-redeemer, because He died on the cross for us, and took our sin on Himself.

Also, us girls (when we are around eighteen or twenty, in age) can learn what to do, because Ruth put perfume on and washed before she went and showed her interest in Boaz. For us, we probably wouldn’t lay at his feet, but that was their custom. And later we’ll see that Ruth and Boaz get married, and we (the church) are called the bride of Christ, just like Ruth will be the bride of Boaz.

Our kinsman-redeemer is Christ, and He accepts us, and loves us. And in the next verse (after the one I read) it says, “The Lord bless you, my daughter,” he replied. “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier: you have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor.”

So Boaz is blessing her (Ruth) for showing kindness to him, just like any good wife would do. And God blesses us, He has already given us one blessing (probably way more than that, but I’ll tell you one), Jesus died on the cross with our sin. That is a blessing, a really really loving blessing, because God gave His own son for us wretches, and Jesus was willing to die for us, that is love.

In John 3:16 it says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
