Hello, God has given me something today in 2 Samuel 21:14 which says,
“They burried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the tomb of Saul’s father Kish, at Zela in Benjamin, and did everything that the king commanded. After that, God answered prayer in behalf of the land.”
So, what God has given me, is, that the atonement was made, when they killed seven of Saul’s children or grandchildren or great-grandchildren (you get the point), and at the cross, Jesus made atonement for us. The four simple words, “You shall not die.” still apply here, because Jesus died in our place, so that we do NOT have to.
Seven is the number of God, and I’m not sure that the reason for the seven men to die had any purpose, but if it does, then this might be one interpretation: Jesus was a perfect sacrifice, so He only had to die once, making the atonement once and for all, but since we are mere humans, and the men from Saul were mere humans, it took seven men, just to TEMPORAROLY fill the need for atonement.
The reason the people (the Gibeonites) wanted the seven people from Saul’s people, is because Saul’s people had (I’m guessing by the first few verses) attacked or even killed some of the Gibeionites. So the SEVEN men from Saul’s people was what they wanted. But David didn’t give Mephiboshteth to them, so Mephibosheth is a picture of us, God (David is a picture of God right now) sent His Son (Jesus) to die in our place, but spared us (Mephibosheth). The Gibeonites can also be a picture of us, because they were not a part of the Israelite clan, but David spared them.
Do yo believe that Jesus died on the cross in our place, and that God spared our lives?
