Why haven’t you rebuilt the temple?

Hello, God has given me something in 2 Kings 12:6-7 which says,

“But by the twenty-third year of King Joash, the priests had made no repairs on the house. Therefore King Joash summoned Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and said to them, “Why are you not repairing the house? Now therefore take no more money from your donors, but hand it over for the repair of the house.”

Why?: Joash asked them why they hadn’t repaired the temple. Joash should be about 30 when this happened, and they still hadn’t repaired the temple, so, Joash asked them why hadn’t the repaired the temple, and tells them to repair it. This is a good picture of the cross.

The gospel!: How is this a picture of the cross? Jesus is the temple, it reminds me of John 2:19 which says,

“Jesus answered them,“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

The temple: Jesus is saying that they will destroy the Jesus, on the cross, and He (God) would raise Himself up. Jesus is the temple, and He died on the cross for us, (This is a shadow, the people did NOT raise Jesus up), and three days later, He rose again. However the temple can also be the church. So also, Jesus rose the church up.

What can we do: Jesus died on the cross for us, He gave His life for us, and what can we do? WORSHIP HIM!! He gave His own life for us, we should worship and thank Him, not because it pays Him back, but because we were made to worship something, and God showed His love to us, by giving His son, so we can worship Him!

Closing prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your son for me. Thank You for letting me know about Your love and Your grace. I pray that I would be closer to You, and love You more. Thank You for letting me know about how You died. I pray that I would worship You more, and grow stronger in You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
