Birthright

Hello, God has given me something in 1 Chronicles 5:1-2 which says,

“The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed, his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel; so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright, and though Judah was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler came from him, the rights of the firstborn belonged to Joseph)…”

Reuben: Reuben was the oldest and he defiled his father’s bed therefore giving his birthright to someone else, but Joseph wasn’t the oldest, the birthright would probably be given to the next oldest or greatest, like Judah. But the birthright now belonged to Joseph. So basically the birthright belonged to Joseph.

Gospel: How could be applied this to the gospel? We are Joseph Jesus is Judah. We are sinful wretches, and Jesus came down and humbled Himself not only being a human being but dying on the cross for us, and in the eyes of God looking like He had sinned when He hadn’t but giving us His birthright. Jesus never sinned, He never has sinned, is not sinning, and never will sin, but He gave His life for sinners. He loves us so much. Thank You Jesus!

Us: How does this apply to us? We know the gospel, and some others don’t, we can share the birthright, there is more than enough to go around like in the feeding of the 5 thousand. We should not be afraid to share the good news of how Jesus gave His only life for us like Paul said (Ephesians 6:19-20). We should not be ashamed of the gospel like Paul (Romans 1:16). Jesus gave His life for us! We should worship Him.

Closing prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your son for us. Thank You, Jesus, for loving us so much that You give Your life for us. I pray that I would love You more. Thank You for giving Your life for me. I pray for the underground church, that they would be strengthened and encouraged, and that they would worship You. Thank You for giving us the light of the gospel. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland

Verses and passages:

Proclaiming the gospel fearlessly. Ephesians 6:19-20,

“Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,  for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”

Not ashamed to share the gospel, Romans 1:16,

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.”

Beginning verse, 1 Chronicles 5:1-2,

“The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed, his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel; so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright, and though Judah was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler came from him, the rights of the firstborn belonged to Joseph)…”
