God delivers

Hello, God has given me something in 1 Chronicles 14:9-10 which says,

“Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim; so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The LORD answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.”

David: David did the right thing. He didn’t say, ‘Look at all my men. I don’t need God’ David asked God if He would be on David’s side. David knew that he needed God to defeat the Philistines, and God delivered the Israelites from the Philistines, twice. Both times David asked if he should fight. The second time God saved them, they had to do some different things, but David still obeyed, and won. God delivered them.

Our salvation: We are sinful wretches. We were bound  for hell. The Jordan river was deep and wide and it didn’t lead to heaven, we were in desperate need of salvation, like the Israelites. And then, Jesus came, and He delivered us from our sin, He became sin for us, and died on the cross. He swapped places with us, now we are bound for the promised land, heaven. Now we are sons and daughters of God. God didn’t only deliver David and the Israelites, God delivered all of us! He gave the perfect sacrifice, who lived the perfect life. We still sin, but we are a stick just pulled out of the fire, we are still hot.

Now: Now we are saved from our sin. Now we can live like we did before: sinful, because Jesus paid for all our sins, right? Yes, and no. Yes, Jesus did pay for all our sins, and no, we cannot live like the heathens do, (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5). We have died to the sinful nature (Romans 6:1-4).

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your life for us. Thank You for sending Your only son for us. I pray that those all around the world who are suffering would come to know the Lord, and if the already know Him, then I pray that they would stay strong in their suffering. I pray that in times of suffering we can stay strong too. Thank You for becoming sin for us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Verses and passages:

Not like the heathens, 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5,

“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God…”

We have died to the sinful nature, Romans 6:1-4,

“What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Beginning verse: 1 Chronicles 14:9-10,

“Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim; so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The LORD answered him, “Go, I will deliver them into your hands.”
