Don’t fight your brother

Hello, God has given me something in 2 Chronicles 11:4 which says,

“‘This is what the LORD says: Do not go up to fight against your brothers. Go home, every one of you, for this is my doing.’” So they obeyed the words of the LORD and turned back from marching against Jeroboam.”

Israelites: Rehoboam mustered up some fighting men from Judah and Benjamin to fight the Israelites and regain the kingdom of Rehoboam. Now, the Israelites were brothers with Judah and Benjamin, and Rehoboam was causing them to (almost) fight. Then, God intervened and told the Israelites not to fight.

Our father: Our father is actually Satan. We are all Satan’s children by birth. Why? Because we are all sinful at birth. We are selfish, and greedy, God’s children want what is best for others. So, our father (before believing in Jesus) is the devil. We deserve to go to hell with the devil.

Reason: So why haven’t we already died and gone to hell with the devil? Jesus! Jesus came down to earth, became sin for us, and died on the cross for us. He died on the cross in our place. Jesus gave His own life, so that we may live in heaven, and sons and daughters of God!

Application: How does the 2 Chronicles verse apply to our lives? We are also the devil’s subjects, because he is the king of this world, and Satan was fighting us. He was making our lives miserable. Then, God sent His only son to die on the cross in our place, and now, we live in Christ. The verse is merely a shadow (meaning that everything does not fit in as a picture of the cross). We still suffer persecution, and God is our father now, But Christ still gave His life for us, and He died in our place.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your only son to die on the cross for us. Thank You for making us Your children. I pray that I would draw close to You, like a father and daughter. I pray that I would talk with You more, and want to be with You more. I pray that I would meditate on You, and read Your word more. I pray that I would love You more. Thank You for even letting me know about how You died for me in my place. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
