Follow the Lord

Hello, God has given me something in 2 Chronicles 11:16 which says,

“Those from every tribe of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the LORD, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices to the LORD, the God of their fathers.”

Israelites: All the Israelites who wanted to seek God, would follow the Levites to Jerusalem, and sacrifice to God. Now, sacrifices were a crucial part of living for the Israelites. Why? Because if they didn’t offer sacrifices, then God would put His wrath on them instead of the sacrifice. There were several different types of sacrifices, for several different occasions, but no matter what, every day they had to offer a sin sacrifice, because they sinned every day.

Us: We are just as sinful as the Israelites. We deserve to die and go to hell. We haven’t offered any sacrifices. So why haven’t we gotten what we deserve? Why haven’t we died already? I know! We acted good when it really mattered, and God thought we were perfect!

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Us (2):  Okay, so that isn’t it. What is the answer? Jesus! Jesus came down to earth, became sin, and died on the cross for us. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. He paid the price for our sins. Jesus gave His own life for us! Thank You Jesus!

Application: How does the 2 Chronicles verse apply to our lives? Here is what it says,

“Those from every tribe of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the LORD, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices to the LORD, the God of their fathers.”

Application: We did not have our hearts set on seeking God, and we certainly didn’t offer sacrifices. We were bound for hell. Then Jesus came down to earth, and led us to God, and He paid the price for our sins. Now, we can have our hearts set on seeking God, and we can find Him in His word.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your only son to die on the cross for us. Thank You for paying the price for our sins. I pray that I would draw close to You, and that I would seek You more. I pray that You would keep me close to You. Thank You for always being a place of refuge. I pray that I would talk with You more, and that You would work through me. Thank You for letting me be Your child. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
