Follow the commands

Hello, God has given me something in 2 Chronicles 17:3-4 which says,

“The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel.”

Jehoshaphat: Jehoshaphat did what was right in God’s eyes. Jehoshaphat followed God, and his commands. He did not seek Baals, or any other fake god, he only sought THE God. Jehoshaphat did the right thing, he even took down the high places and the asherah poles.

Us: We are definitely not worthy of life. We have not kept the law, or any of the commandments. We are sinful, horrible, angry, awful, hating, despising, revolting, precisely mean, and evil. We are wretches, squatters (trespassers) in our own bodies. We are so Satanic, that God can’t even look at us without daily sacrifices, or a perfect sacrifice. So, since we are so evil, then why haven’t we died and gone to hell? Why haven’t we gotten what we deserve?

Jesus: Jesus is the answer! Jesus gave His own life for us on the cross. Now, Jesus could have stayed up in heaven, and left the mere mortals of earth squander in their sins and die. So, why didn’t he? Because He loves us (1 John 4:10). I just learned a day or two ago from my dad, that Jesus answered the Pharisees causing them to throw a fit, and then he didn’t answer to Pilot causing him to throw a fit. Had he not answered to the Pharisees, and then answered to Pilot, he probably wouldn’t have been put on the cross. Jesus knew exactly what to say (or not to say) to enrage both the Pharisees and Pilot.

Application: How does 2 Chronicles 17:3-4 apply to us? We could not follow God’s commands. We were stuck in our sins. Then, Jesus came down to earth, and gave His life for us. Jesus became sin, and died on the cross for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God ( 2 Corinthians 5:21).

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your son for us. Thank You for making us Your children. I pray that I would draw close to You, and love You more. I pray that You would save America from our debt. Thank You for letting me even know about how You gave Your life for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Verses:

Loved, 1 John 4:10,

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

Righteous, 2 Corinthians 5:21,

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Beginning verse, 2 Chronicles 17:3-4,

“The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel.”

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
