Radical amputation

Hello, God has given me something in 2 Chronicles 31:1 which says,

“When all this had ended, the Israelites who were there went out to the towns of Judah, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. They destroyed the high places and the altars throughout Judah and Benjamin and in Ephraim and Manasseh. After they had destroyed all of them, the Israelites returned to their own towns and to their own property.”

Israelites: After the Israelites had the Passover, they went out and destroyed the sacred stones, Asherah poles, the high places, and the altars all throughout Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh. When they were done destroying the sacred stones, Asherah poles, high places, and altars, they went back to their own property.

Us: We are horrible. We are like the people who put up the Asherah poles. We are like the man C.S. Lewis wrote about (http://www.preachingtoday.com/illustrations/2011/october/3103111.html). We are stuck in our sin. We are satanic, and evil (We are like the people in Genesis 13:13).

Saved: We were sinful wretches, but we were saved like the ghost with the lizard. But, who saved us? Jesus! Jesus came down to earth, took on all our sin, and all the sin of the world, and He died for us in our place. Jesus gave His life, so that the world full of wretched sinners, might be saved!

Application: How does 2 Chronicles 31:1 apply to us? We are like the Israelites. We were sinful, but then Jesus saved us from our sin, like Hezekiah praying for the people, and now, with God’s help, we radically amputate our sin. In our heart, we are sinful, and we need to amputate our sin. No, I’m not saying we need to cut off our hand, or foot, I’m saying that we have sin struggles, and habitual sin. And we need to amputate that sin, if it means putting a filter on the computer, or not going somewhere, then we need to do it. We Spiritually amputate our sin, by the mercy of God.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your son for us. Thank You for loving me so much. I pray that I would draw close to You. Please help me to love you more, and want to be with You more. Please strengthen me, and help me to run to You when I need help. Please help me amputate my sin struggles. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Verse(s):

We are sinful like Sodom, Genesis 13:13,

“Now the people of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.”

Beginning verse, 2 Chronicles 31:1,

“When all this had ended, the Israelites who were there went out to the towns of Judah, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. They destroyed the high places and the altars throughout Judah and Benjamin and in Ephraim and Manasseh. After they had destroyed all of them, the Israelites returned to their own towns and to their own property.”

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
