Opposition

Hello, God has given me something in Ezra 4:4 which says,

“Then the peoples around them set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to go on building.”

Tried: The Israelites’ enemies asked if they could help build the Israelites temple, because they served the God, like the Israelites. But, the Israelites said that they could build the temple by themselves, as king Cyrus had commanded. So, the peoples around them tried to discourage the people, and make them afraid to continue building. They bribed people to help them. Joshua and some others refused help, so they got opposition.

Christians: Christians do get opposed. People try to tear us down, but it can also be like that for unbelievers. But unbelievers do not have what believers do. We have Christ, when people try to tear us down, we can go to Christ. He loves us, and when we read His word, we come out refreshed no matter what anybody says. Unbelievers do not have that benefit. Why not come, and be refreshed in His word?

What to do: As Christians, we are going to do things. We worship Christ, and spread the good news. But in application to this passage, we need to press through opposition. Satan despises Christians, so he tried every way he can think of to get us feeling bad. One way is by working through other people, who tear us down, and get us feeling like we are useless. But, when we read God’s word we are revived. God can use those who are lowly (1 Corinthians 1:27).

God: God is a wonderful mighty God. He gave His own son for us. He loves us so much, praise His great name. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gbBrlAVm20). Give Him praise, He is a great God, and He deserves much more than our praise. Praise Him!

Gospel: The Gospel is that Jesus gave His life for us on the cross. He came down to earth, was born of a virgin, and gave His life for us. He loves us so much. Jesus died on the cross for us, taking our sin with Him. Now, we are free from our bondage of sin.

Application: How does Ezra 4:4 apply to our lives? We are like the Israelites, people try to discourage us, and sometimes they succeed, but when we read the Word, and remember that Jesus gave His own life for us, we are encouraged, and can go on building the body of Christ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJ7Y_7xVXSU&feature=related)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your son for us on the cross. Thank You for always being there in time of discouragement. Please help, me to grow in You, and love You more. Please strengthen me, and help me to draw close to You. Thank You for making me Your daughter, and for loving me so much. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Verse(s):

Despised, 1 Corinthians 1:27,

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

Beginning verse, Ezra, 4:4,

“Then the peoples around them set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to go on building.”

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
