Don’t open the gates until…

Hello, God has given me something in Nehemiah 7:3 which says,

“I said to them, “The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the doors and bar them. Also appoint residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some near their own houses.””

Gates: Nehemiah finished building the wall, and putting in the doors. He said not to open the gates until the sun was hot. The gatekeepers would shut the doors and bar them. They were not to open the gates until the sun had ascended into the sky, and was “hot”.   Before that they weren’t supposed to open the gates.

Christians: Christ is like the sun. He gave His life for us on the cross, and descended into the grave, then He rose again, and when He ascended the gates of Heaven were opened. Now, through Christ, believers will go to heaven. We have the benefit of being with our Lord and savior, Jesus, in heaven. So, why not come and join us? Why not be saved and go to Heaven? Jesus can and will save you, just ask. Then we can go to heaven through Christ.

What to do: Here is one thing that we are to do as Christians. Enter through Jesus. Enter where? Heaven. Jesus died so that we could go to heaven, not so that we could work our we to heaven. We need to believe in Jesus, and believe that He is the one and only way to heaven, because He is. There is no other way to go to heaven, unless you obeyed the law perfectly, which is humanly impossible without Christ. So, believe in Christ as the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). Without Christ, we don’t know the way (Isaiah 30:21) But He calls His sheep to Him, and shows us the way.

God: God is almighty, amazing, and wonderful. He is so good to us. He loves us. He loves us so much, that He not only gave His son for us, but He raised Him up on the third day and through Him opened the gates us heaven. Give Him praise, and thank Him. Love Him, and worship Him, because He is so good to us. He saved us from our sins. Jesus gave His own life for us, and then opened the doors of Heaven for us. Thank You, Jesus! He loves us so much.

Application: How does Nehemiah 7:3 apply to us? The people were not to open the gates until the sun was hot, or high. The only way that the doors of Heaven were opened for us to easily reach was when Christ ascended into Heaven, and made a way for us to go. He opened the doors of heaven for us by becoming the atoning sacrifice for us, and taking our sin and punishment on Himself. Then He became the only way to heaven. Now that the son has ascended, the doors of heaven have opened, and a way made for us.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for giving Your son for us. Thank You for making a way for us to get to heaven. Please help me to follow You, and love You more. Please help me to long to be with You, and to grow in You more. Thank You for making me Your daughter, and for loving me so much. Please strengthen me, and other believers around the world. Please send a revival, and help unbelievers to come to know and love You. Thank You for doing so much for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Verse(s):

Way, John 14:6

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Follow the way, Isaiah 30:21,

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.””

Beginning verse, Nehemiah 7:3,

“I said to them, “The gates of Jerusalem are not to be opened until the sun is hot. While the gatekeepers are still on duty, have them shut the doors and bar them. Also appoint residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some near their own houses.””

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
