The Sermon, Revised

Hello, unfortunately the speaker didn’t preach the Gospel, though he came really close. He preached a high-five message

Point 1: love: I don’t remember a lot of what he said about love but I do know that love can preach the Gospel very clearly. 1 John 3:16 says,

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.”

Do I need to say anything more? Love is shown at the cross. Jesus loved us so much that He died for us. God loved us so much that He gave His own son for us. John 3:16 says,

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

1 John 4:9-11,

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us,we also ought to love one another.”

Point 2. Hope: I can’t remember much from what he said about hope either. But, we now have hope because Jesus gave His own life for us. We have hope of eternal life. Ephesians 1:12 says,

“in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.”

We put our hope in Jesus.

Point 3. Joy (or thanksgiving): We should be full of joy because we know that Jesus has saved us from our sin. 1 Peter 1:8 says,

“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,”

We have been filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy!

Point 4. Respect: He talked about having respect for older people. I can only apply that to Jesus because of my brother. He said that Jesus respected and obeyed His parents. So, because He obeyed His parents (and obeyed the law) He is perfect, and He became the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

Point 5. Truth: Jesus is the way the truth and the life, John 14:6 says,

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Jesus is the truth, and all those who come to Him have a longing to tell the truth. We also know the truth, and what He did for us. Jesus died for us on the cross!

Please pray that we will find a Gospel preaching church soon.

Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
