Hello, today we’re continuing our study in Habakkuk. The verse we are going to use today is Habakkuk 3:19 which says:
“19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights.
For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.”
Habakkuk has put his faith fully in the Lord because he knows that the Lord will strengthen him. And his “crippled” feet would become like the feet of a deer. Habakkuk is talking about spiritual “feet”, his spiritual foundation that God would strengthen.
We were just as “crippled” as Habakkuk. We were unable to walk because of the burden of sin we carried. But God, just like with Habakkuk’s “crippled” feet, made our feet as light and free as the feet of a deer. He lifted our burden off of our shoulders; and He did it at the cross. The cross where all of our sins rolled away. Matthew 11:28 says:
““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (NIV)
The burden of sin that was weighing us down and crippling us was removed when Jesus died for us at the cross, and now we can rest in Him. We don’t have to worry about tomorrow, because now Jesus has us safe in his arms. Matthew 6:25:
““Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”
