Hello, today me and my sister are going to post on Zephaniah 3:7, which says,
“Of Jerusalem I thought,
‘Surely you will fear me
and accept correction!’
Then her place of refuge would not be destroyed,
nor all my punishments come upon her.
But they were still eager
to act corruptly in all they did.”
Here we see that the place of refuge that the Israelites had was completely dependent on their works; if they obeyed God then they would be safe, but if they disobeyed God then they would be destroyed. However, we have a completely different place of refuge, a refuge that does not depend on our works, even if we want it to.
You see, our refuge is Christ; Jesus Christ, who took all of the punishment for our sins at the cross! Jesus, who gave us all of His perfection and righteousness so that we would be saved! Jesus is our refuge!
No matter how hard we try we can never measure up. It seems logical that we should accept God’s correction, and then live better, but we can’t do that. That is why Jesus came down, and took the punishment of our sins on the cross for us; He died because of our sin!
