Hello, today my sister and I are writing our post together on Zechariah 2:10 which says:
“Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the Lord.”
This passage clearly points forward to Jesus. I don’t want to go immediately to the Gospel, but the only time that God came down from heaven, took a human form, and lived among people was when Jesus was sent down from heaven! So we see that this passage points clearly to Jesus, but why should Zion “Shout and be glad”?
The reason they should be glad, is because Jesus was going to come and save them. But how, and why? Jesus saved them (and us) by taking all the world’s sin on Himself, and suffering the wrath of God in our place on the cross. Why? Jesus died for us because He loved us! He loved the whole world so much that He died for us. 1 John 3:16 says:
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” – 1 John 3:16
If “Daughter Zion” should celebrate because their sins were removed, we should celebrate because our sins have been removed! Because we have been saved we should want to shout and be glad; we should want to sing and dance! We should want to be glad because we have been set free and our sins have been removed.
