Hello, today my sister and I are doing our post together on Zechariah 5:6-9
“I asked, “What is it?” He replied, “It is a basket.” And he added, “This is the iniquity of the people throughout the land.” 7 Then the cover of lead was raised, and there in the basket sat a woman! 8 He said, “This is wickedness,” and he pushed her back into the basket and pushed its lead cover down on it. 9 Then I looked up—and there before me were two women, with the wind in their wings! They had wings like those of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between heaven and earth.”
The Angel is still talking to Zechariah, and showing him things. Here, he is showing Zechariah the iniquity of the people, and the wickedness that accompanies it. We see that the two women with wings of storks, took the people’s iniquity up between heaven and Earth.
This pictures how our sin separates us from God; because we were sinners we were not able to talk with God. The only people who could be in his presence at all were the priests, and that was to offer a sacrifice to Him! There was a gap between us and God because of our sins, and we could not fill that gap.
Now things are different: we can talk with God without fear! The gap between us and God is not gone; it has been filled! How? Because of God’s love for us He sent His one and only son to fill that gap! Isaiah 53:5 says:
“But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.”
Jesus died on a cross to atone for our sins and allow us to speak with God with no fear! At the cross Jesus was pierced for our sins, and He was beaten and punished because of our sin. All to bring us peace, to heal us, and to give us the rights to be the children of God!
Jesus took all our punishment, and He gave us His righteousness; He took the punishment that we deserved. Now we are His children, wrapped in His righteousness.
