Hello, today my sister and I are doing our post together on Zechariah 10:2 which says:
“The idols speak deceitfully,
diviners see visions that lie;
they tell dreams that are false,
they give comfort in vain.
Therefore the people wander like sheep
oppressed for lack of a shepherd.”
God is declaring that the people were speaking falsely. They believed false idols. The diviners were comforting the people in vain. And because of that, the people were left like sheep without a shepherd. They had lost God in all the falsehood.
God said He would give them a good shepherd, who would lead them in the right way. This Shepherd came many years later. Jesus was the Good Shepherd. But Jesus did come to be a King and rule over the people, like the Jews thought He would, He came as a servant. He came to save the people, but not from the Romans; He came to save those He loved and that included the Gentiles and the Jews.
Jesus came to take the sins of the world upon Himself and die for our sins on a cross. He came to take God’s wrath off of us, and onto Himself so that He could atone for our sins! He gave us His righteousness, and He gave us the very rights to become the children of God!
This also has an application for believers! The church is the sheep, and many false teachers can invade the church and corrupt it. The church needs a shepherd (the pastor) who knows how to give the sheep good food (the Gospel)!
