The Pharisees

Hello, today my sister and I are doing our post together on Proverbs 6:16-19

“There are six things the Lord hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
a false witness who pours out lies
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.”

Solomon is telling his sons what not to do. He is telling them about 7 things that are detestable to God. Haughty eyes, lying, shedding innocent blood, devising wicked schemes, rushing into evil, false witnesses, and someone who stirs up conflict among the community.

All of these detestable things are things that the Pharisees in Jesus’ time did. First they were always looking down on others with proud, haughty eyes. They lied by looking so righteous, while in reality they were sinning. Then they got mad at Jesus, and started to plot evil schemes against him. Their feet rushed into wickedness, they had a false court in the night with false witnesses. They shed Jesus’ innocent blood. They stirred up the community against Jesus.

Why did Jesus, the Holy Son of God, die? God sent Him to Earth from Heaven so that He might die. God sent the perfect sacrifice to atone for our sins. The Pharisees did all this to Jesus so that we could live, even though they didn’t know it at the time. In fact, Jesus died to save the ones who shed His innocent blood.
