Hello! Today my sister and I are doing our post together on Proverbs 11:6-7 which says:
“The righteousness of the upright delivers them,
but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.
7 Hopes placed in mortals die with them;
all the promise of their power comes to nothing.”
Solomon is saying that the righteous and upright are delivered, while the unfaithful are trapped by evil desired. Those who are wicked are trapped by their wickedness, while those who are righteous are saved by their righteousness.
In order to be saved, you have to be righteous. That is what Solomon is saying. But we are not, of ourselves, righteous. So therefore we deserve to die right? We would deserve to die, if Jesus hadn’t come. Jesus, the perfect, righteous son of God, came and died in our place. He took on all our unfaithfulness, and He gave us His righteousness. We are righteous because of Jesus!
In verse 7 Solomon tells us that hopes place in mortals, in humans, will die with them. Because all humans die, the hopes that have been placed in them will also die. If you think about all of the different religions with their different gods and prophets (buddha, confucius, Joseph Smith, Ellen G. White; they are all dead) you see that all of their gods and prophets are dead (or never were alive).
But Jesus is different. Yes He died, but He didn’t stay in the grave forever, like most people. Instead Jesus rose from the grave on the third day! And He not only rose from the grave; multitudes of people saw Him! Jesus is a living hope; If you put your hope in Him it will never die! We will always have a living hope! But why would we put our hope in Jesus? Because He gave His life as a sacrifice so that we might be saved from our sins! That is why we put our hope in Jesus!
