Hello, today my sister and I are doing a post together on Proverbs 22: 22-23 which say:
“22 Do not exploit the poor because they are poor
and do not crush the needy in court,
23 for the Lord will take up their case
and will exact life for life.”
Verse 22 says that we should not punish the poor, or crush the needy because they are poor or needy. We shouldn’t be cruel to those in need because they are poor. There is no justice in being cruel to the poor and needy.
Jesus was not only not mean to the poor and oppressed, He showed them kindness. Jesus didn’t only show kindness to those who knew they were poor and needy, He showed kindness who thought they weren’t poor and needy.
All people sin, so that means that spiritually, we are all poor. We all deserve to die for our sins. But Jesus showed us kindness, and He took all our sin on Himself. He paid the price that we deserved to pay. He showed us kindness even though we didn’t deserve it.
We should, now, show kindness to others. We should point them to Jesus and what He has done for us on the cross.
Verse 23 tells us that God would take up the case of the poor, and that he would exact life for life. What we’re seeing here is that God is just; He does not overlook any sin. But the only problem is: we’re sinners! Which means that God’s justice and wrath was on us; and we couldn’t do anything about it.
We couldn’t do anything about it, but god sent an atonement for us! He loved us so much that He sent a sacrifice to die in our place, and not only that but He sent His only son as a sacrifice! Because of His love for us He sent Jesus, who lived a perfect life, to atone for all of our lives! God exacts life for life, and Jesus gave His life so that we could live!
