Hello, today my sister and I are doing a post together on Proverbs 22:26-27 which say:

“26 Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge
or puts up security for debts;
27 if you lack the means to pay,
your very bed will be snatched from under you.”

In these verses Solomon is talking about debt. We can see from these verses that it is not right to get yourself into debt, what if you don’t have the means to pay it off? Then, Solomon tells us, your very bed will be snatched from underneath you. So you can look at this passage and just say that it clearly means not to get into debt.

But there is also another way to interpret this passage. We were in the biggest debt possible. We owed our lives to God. We owed our lives because we disobeyed God. We sinned, so we deserved to die and go to hell. But God, who made us and loved us, sent a sacrifice to take our place! And not only that, but He sent his one and only son as a sacrifice for us! Because Jesus, God’s son and God Himself, took our place as a sacrifice on the cross!

Jesus has paid our debt in full, there is nothing left over for us to bear. Praise the Lord!

Grace and truth, Charity Cleveland and,
Peace and love, Joy Cleveland
